It was a tie game heading into the final period, but it took the Mount Pleasant/Hastings IceCats just 20 seconds to change that.

Daniel Kauber netted the game-winner right away in the third period and the IceCats held on for the 3-2 win over the Rivertown Legends on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Westchester Skating Academy. Kevin Condon of Hastings set up Kauber for the game-winning goal.

Trailing 2-1 late in the second period, Mount Pleasant’s Noah Whitney knotted the game up at 2-2 on a feed from Thomas Schutt.

The IceCats took a first-period lead on a goal from Schutt with 2:32 on the clock. Whitney and Nick Delia had the assists.

The Legends roared back with two goals from Nick Denike (Dobbs Ferry) in the second period. The first tally was on the power play and Denike blasted a shot from just inside the blue line with the assist coming from Braedon Gallante (Ardsley) about midway through the period. Denike then added his second goal just over 3 minutes later to give the Legends the 2-1 lead.

IceCats goalie John Sarfaty of Hastings made 31 saves in net for the win while the Legends’ goalie, Elle Schanzer, stopped 15 shots.

Mount Pleasant ran into a dominant John Jay-Cross River squad the next day, falling 12-4 at Brewster Ice Arena.

The IceCats received two goals from Whitney and a goal apiece from Schutt and Louis Sdao. Whitney, Delia, Joey Engelman, and Kauber had an assist each. Sarfaty made 26 saves.
