The Irvington and Hastings cross-country teams each competed in the Fred Gressler Memorial Run at White Plains on Sept. 25, with the Bulldogs’ boys team and Yellow Jackets’ girls squad running to first place.
Liam Lyons led the Irvington boys with a third-place finish (17:22.8) in the Varsity 2 race in a field of 64. Lucas Turano wasn’t far behind in fifth (17:29.8), with Ryan Carron placing eighth (18:35.3). The Bulldogs just edged out Pelham with 45 points to the Pelicans’ 46.
Rounding out Irvington’s finishers were Mitchell Milun (12th, 18:58.6), Mickey Sivere (17th, 19:07.9), Brice Pierce (18th, 19:09.3), and Max Shevrin (21st, 19:22.3).
Irvington’s girls squad took fourth and was sparked by Luciana Forte, who finished fourth in 21:18.3. Joanna Paul (13th, 23:26.1) and Ciara Lyons (15th, 23:36.5) were top 20 finishers.
Hastings’ first-place girls’ team was led by Caitlin Thomas, who was second in the Varsity 2 race in 21:04.4 in a field of 62. Anna Thomas placed fifth in 21:41.4 with Natalie Romero (16th, 23:53.3) and Bliss Johnsen (21st, 24:18.3) also placing well. The team posted 81 points to edge out second-place White Plains (88 points).
The Hastings boys were led by Emmett McGrath in sixth (17:49.5), with Owen Pietraszek taking 10th (18:45.6), Patrick Maloney 16th (19:05.9), and Gus Renzin 25th (19:42.9). They placed fourth as a team.
Dobbs Ferry boys take second at Six Flags
Dobbs Ferry placed second in the boys Varsity D race at the Six Flags Wild Safari Invitational on Sept. 25 in Jackson, N.J. The Eagles tallied 71 points but were far behind Holy Ghost Preparatory School, which placed first (37 points).
Marc Lucasey sparked the Eagles with a second-place finish in 16:11 in a large field of 105. James Masterson took fifth (17:06), Devan Barbera was seventh (17:08), and Cyrus Dadina took 15th (17:36).
Leading the Eagles’ girls again was Fenna Laban, who ran to second in the D race in 18:41. Alessia Bubula took sixth in 20:08. The team placed fifth out of 13 squads.
Ardsley also competed at the invitational. Gabriel Brea ran in the B race and was 70th in 19:12, while teammate Joshua Laaz competed in the C race and placed 51st in 19:15. The top finisher for the girls was Anisha Kumar in 57th (25:34) in the C race.
