Congratulations to the Rivertowns!

Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, and Irvington recently completed a friendly competition to sign up their residents for the GridRewards program through Sustainable Westchester. This program provides cash back to participants for using less energy on the few days of year with highest demand on the energy grid (think a sweltering August afternoon). Importantly, it reduces strain on the electric grid and reduces our reliance on the dirtiest power plants, which are pressed into action at those peak times.

So who won? Thanks to Mayor Niki Armacost's encouragement that all the villages participate, we all did! Based on enrollments, all four villages are eligible for a grant for $5,000 each from NYSERDA and the 365 Rivertowns residents who signed up by April 30 are likely to get cash rewards averaging about $200 for participating. Best of all, they will be helping us move toward a cleaner and more efficient electricity grid.

Kudos to the mayors for the fun and spirited competition that allowed everyone to come out ahead.
