Among the many reasons I am supporting Niki Armacost’s re-election as mayor of Hastings-on-Hudson is her excellent handling of the coronavirus epidemic. As a physician and historian of public health, I know that Mayor Armacost has closely followed the evolving science and statistics and used them to give sage advice to our village. And while she has carefully allowed certain events, like the Farmers’ Market and Welcome Back Fridays, she has wisely discouraged the misguided premature openings that other municipalities have allowed. I am certain we will continue to see wise decisions from Mayor Armacost as the epidemic gradually abates.
