Further to my letter in last week's Rivertowns Enterprise, this letter updates the procedure for the annual caucus of the Hastings-on-Hudson Democratic Committee scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 21, starting at 7 p.m. Pursuant to Executive Order 202.89 issued by Governor Cuomo on Jan. 7, the caucus may be conducted in whole or part by electronic means.

At this caucus, Hastings Democrats will select one mayoral and two village trustee candidates for the Democratic ballot line in the March 16 village election. Hastings Democrats may attend and vote virtually via Zoom forum, or they can vote in person at the James Harmon Community Center if unable to attend virtually.

For public health and safety reasons related to Covid, it is advisable to attend via Zoom. To attend virtually, please send an email to hastingsdems10706@gmail.com. Include your name as it appears on your voter registration, your street address, and the email address you will use to access Zoom. To ensure accuracy in tabulating votes, for households where more than one resident will be voting via Zoom, each person must register individually — using his or her own personal email address — and must use his or her separate device. Please send your email by no later than Sunday, Jan. 17, to avoid delay in verifying valid voter registration in advance. Your Zoom link will be emailed to you on the day of the caucus.

For those who wish to vote in person, voter registration and enrollment will be confirmed upon sign-in at the door. We ask that you line up in front of the community center maintaining a 6-foot distance between voters. We will have a check-in table and ballot box near the entrance and will admit voters one at a time. Face masks are required.

In the event of a snowstorm, the caucus will be held on Jan. 25. The time and other criteria applicable to the Jan. 21 caucus will continue to apply. Because the governor may issue further changes, please consult www.hastingsdems.org for updates to Zoom or other relevant information and in the event of inclement weather.

The Hastings Democratic Committee has endorsed incumbents Mayor Nicola Armacost and Trustee Mary Lambert, in addition to trustee candidate Thomas Drake. All three will seek the Democratic nomination at this caucus. We hope that you will join us in supporting these candidates who already have contributed to building an even better Hastings.

Chair, Hastings Democratic Committee
