Veronica Lanowetsky Wemer

Veronica “Ronnie” Wemer, who was born in Hastings on Nov. 27, 1927 and spent all of her 92 years in the village, passed away at Andrus on Hudson on Tuesday, March 31.

Ronnie worked for the Hastings School District for 47 years in a variety of jobs ranging from cafeteria cook to teacher’s aid to business administration clerk. She was an active volunteer as a member of the Mothers’ Club, St. Matthew Rosary Altar Society, Protection Engine Ladies Auxiliary, Senior Sewing at Hillside, Senior Canteen, and Bethany Chapel.

The daughter of John and Josephine (Gulish) Lanowetsky, Ronnie graduated Hastings High School in 1946. In May 1947, she married Raymond Wemer. They were the parents of Judith (Terry) Chamberlain, Raymond (Bunny), Donald (Irene), Nancy Petronella, and Christine Stevens. Ronnie was a wonderful and generous grandmother to Brian and Jonathan Chamberlain; Rebecca, Jessica, and Donald Wemer; George and Brittany Petronella; and Emily and Bryan Stevens. She was also the great-grandmother of three boys.

Ronnie was predeceased by her husband in 2006 and brothers David and Andrew (Whitey).

A memorial will take place at a later date. Donations may be made to Hastings Protection Engine Company No.1 or the Hastings Alumni Association Scholarship.
